Chatree Gold Mine
Thailand
Kingsgate’s flagship asset is the world-class Chatree Gold Mine owned and operated, through our Thai subsidiary Akara Resources.
Chatree has a Mineral Resource of 3.3 million ounces of gold and 28.1 million ounces of silver and Ore Reserve of 1.2 million ounces of gold and 10.7 million ounces of silver*.
Location
The Chatree Gold Mine is located in central Thailand, approximately 280km north of the capital of Bangkok and straddles the Phichit, Phetchabun and Phitsanulok provinces.
History
Kingsgate has been operating in Thailand since the 1990s when the gold deposit was discovered by a team of Thai and Australian geologists. We’re proud that some of these geologists still work for Akara today and in fact Chatree is named after one of the founding geologists.
Operations commenced in 2001 and since then the mine has created thousands of jobs (98% Thai workforce), supported local businesses and generated over 39 billion Thai Baht for local communities and the Thai economy.
The mine produced 1.8 million ounces of gold and 10 million ounces of silver between 2001-2016.
Chatree wasn’t in operation between 2017-2021 when a key processing licence wasn’t renewed. Kingsgate undertook action under the Thai-Australia Free Trade Agreement and following an international legal process and negotiations with the Thai government Chatree officially reopened in March 2023.
Following an extensive refurbishment of the processing plants and the arrival of new Caterpillar mining equipment, full mining operations at Chatree recommenced in mid 2024. Kingsgate is now focused on an aggressive regional exploration program and continuing to ramping up operations to produce 80,000-90,000 ounces of gold in FY25.
Geology
Chatree is a large, low-grade, low sulphidation epithermal deposit, located in the highly prospective Loei-Phetchabun volcanic belt. Gold occurs in volcaniclastics and epiclastic sedimentary facies intruded by rhyolite breccia within quartz-calcite adularia veins, breccias and stockworks in a host intermediate volcanic arc sequence of Triassic age.
Mining & Processing
The Chatree processing facility consists of two parallel plants with a conventional CIL flow sheet, with a combined nameplate capacity of +5Mtpa. Mining services are provided by our long standing, local mining contactor LotusHall Mining.
